CONSCRIPTING GOD
A Simple Suggestion
Whatever their qualities as soldiers, and certainly
whatever they lack in sophistication they make up for in savagery and barbaric
brutality, members of ISIS currently standing before the gates of Baghdad are
not noted for qualities of sceptical enquiry. When it comes to matter of faith
indeed they can be characterised as extraordinarily credulous, in short they
are downright stupid.
This set me thinking. The CIA seems to have a large
budget and the capacity for considerable ingenuity, what if they were to turn
these resources to find ways to mimic God. After all it’s not as if the God of
the Bible and Quran demonstrated particular sophistication in communicating with
those whom he wished to terrify. I mean,
burning bushes, pillars of salt, plagues and visions of angels, how difficult
are these going to be to replicate given the current state of our technological
abilities. Hallucinatory drugs alone suggest a wealth of possibilities, all
that would be required would be a means of delivery; and how difficult would it
be to replicate a booming voice from the sky, speaking classical Arabic? Which
apparently is the language God speaks. Burning bushes, flashing lights, even
reducing buildings to pillars of salt, how difficult is this in the internet
age? We also have the advantage that the God described in the Quran isn’t
exactly difficult to replicate, jealous, cruel, capricious, vindictive, indeed
one could say almost human.
The kind of messages that could be delivered can well
be imagined:-
“STOP,
STOP YOU HAVE DISPLEASED ME, MAKE OF YOURSELF A BURNING CANDLE TO APPEASE YOUR
GOD.
YOU
ARE NOT WARRIORS IN MY NAME BUT HAVE BECOME ABSORBED IN VANITY AND SELF
GLORIFICATION; THROW AWAY YOUR WEAPONS AND ASK FOR FORGIVENESS OF YOUR VICTIMS.
YOU
HAVE BEEN DOING SATAN’S WORK NOT MINE. FORGET VIRGINS AND RIVERS OF WINE AND
START ACCLIMATIZING YOURSELF TO WARMER TEMPERATURES.”
You get the general drift. You can think of some of
your own.
Who knows, if successful such a programme could be
extended to Jihadists all over the globe from Nigeria to Afghanistan, Thailand
and the Philippines.
Of course I realize that by posting these ideas I am
rather giving the game away, though I do not think that this blog is high on
the Jihadist reading list. However even if there was suspicion about the
provenance of some of these messages, surely there would always be a nagging
doubt? What if it actually was the voice of God?
As I say just a thought.
