ANOTHER CHAPTER IN THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS HISTORY OF THE DAILY MAIL
Reginald D Hunter |
The Daily Mail this week
was shocked, the shock delivered in the form of the comedian Reginald D Hunter
who during an FA dinner used the N word. The Mail you see is perturbed by Mr
Hunter’s use of this word, a word so enmeshed in the history of slavery,
torture, subjugation, segregation and discrimination. The Mail would have you
believe that Mr Hunter, a black American hailing from the Southern states of
the USA , is using the word in the same manner that Bernard
Manning or Jim Davidson might.
I must pause here for a
moment of silence in respect for the word Chutzpah, which just died, unable to
take the strain of the Daily Mail’s ‘outrage.’ The Daily Mail is the newspaper
whose glorious past includes an owner, Lord Rothermere, who hailed both
Mussolini and Hitler, the latter of which he was proud to call a friend. Under
Rothermere the Mail produced a forged letter to discredit the Labour Party, and
threw its considerably weight behind Oswald Mosley and the Blackshirts.
More recently it has
sought to demonise anyone on welfare, going so far as to suggest that the
odious Mr Philpott, who killed his own children in a house fire, was the
product of the welfare state. When not demonising welfare recipients as
‘scroungers,’ it seeks to defame Eastern European immigrants to this country in
general and the citizens of a country called Roamaniaandbulgaria, (geography
never a strong point at The Mail), in particular. This ‘country’ it seems is
filled with citizens who given the slightest chance will pour into the UK to
claim our overgenerous benefits and housing provision and spend the rest of
their time sitting in A & E seeking to milk our free health service.
Over the years The Daily
Mail has paddled in every gutter it could find; no lies being too outrageous
for it to print. I recently compared it to Der Sturmer, though fear in doing so
I risked legal action from the estate of Julius Striecher. Der Sturmer you
understand always knew it was a filthy propaganda rag, never pretended to be
anything else, whilst The Daily Mail pretends to be a serious newspaper.
Back to Mr Hunter: I
suppose I should declare an interest in finding him one of the funniest and
most insightful of comedians currently inhabiting the comedy circuit. I would
hazard a guess that Mr Hunter knows a great deal more about the implications of
the word ‘nigger’ than Mr Paul Dacre the editor of The Daily Mail and if anyone
has earned the right to subvert the use of the word it is a black American from
the Southern States.
